Brown brick wall
A sudden hand reached
then thoughtfully retracted!
fingers curled, empty
(into the brown brick wall)
Something in my scowl
frightened it away, I hoped,
relieved and proud
of my own self-reliance.
I stepped quickly by,
nearly running,
(but dignified still,)
past that criminal spot
where sardonic body parts
dart from the unknown,
begging to be seen.
