Ugly Beauty
In the garden – Twenty-five red petals I counted,
At the beach – Three thousand grains of sand,
Going home – I heard the love-call of a passing bird,
In my room – I stared at the million lines on my hand.
But I could not find a cause to smile
No matter how far my search went,
For nature's sweetness that we once shared,
Now a sour reminder sent.
So I listened to time tick away,
So many lonely hours
I measured my unhappiness
By counting a rainbow of flowers.
